Using the Housing Company Broadband

The connection can be activated from the NOUSU 02 data port in the distribution cabinet (Notice: Building D has only one NOUSU port). A computer or WiFi router can be connected directly to this port, and the connection will start working. The NOUSU 02 socket is located in the apartment’s distribution cabinet, usually in the hallway, often appearing as a white metal cabinet.

Inside the distribution cabinet, there are additional numbered Ethernet ports. These can be used to extend the connection to corresponding numbered sockets in the apartment.

Do not use ADSL or VDSL modems, as the connection is provided via Ethernet. Instead, a router should be used. Recommended router specifications:

  • WAN and LAN ports must support 1000 Mbps Ethernet speeds
  • Wi-Fi 6/AX standard is recommended for wireless connectivity

Each connected apartment will receive one (1) IPv4 address, so devices should be in routing mode.

Connection Setup Options

Single Device via Cable

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable in the apartment's distribution cabinet to the NOUSU 02 port.
  2. Plug the other end in the distribution cabinet into port 03.
  3. Connect another Ethernet cable from port 03 on the apartment's wall socket to your device.

Multiple Devices Wirelessly

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from the NOUSU 02 port in the distribution cabinet to a numbered port (e.g., 03, 04, etc.).
  2. Plug another Ethernet cable from this port into the router's Internet (”WAN port”).
  3. Find the SSID (network name) and password. Connect your device to the wireless network.

Multiple Devices via Cable

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from the NOUSU 02 port into the router's Internet (”WAN port”).
  2. Plug Ethernet cables from the router's portteihin (LAN) into the apartment’s corresponding numbered wall ports (e.g., 03, 04, etc.).
  3. Connect devices to the wall sockets using Ethernet cables.

Testing Fiber Speeds

We recommend using the free Speedtest® by Ookla to test the speeds.
Do not use the browser version, as it provides inaccurate results.

How to Perform a Speed Test

  1. Connect your computer to the SuomiCom fiber via an Ethernet cable.
  2. Download and install the appropriate Speedtest application for your device links available in the adjacent section or on the official website.
  3. Open the application, select Speedtest server: Suomi Communications Oy, Espoo and start the test.

Important Notes

Ensure you are not on WiFi during the test, as wireless connections limit speed and can give inaccurate results. Test the speed directly from the Ethernet port in the apartment’s distribution cabinet for the most accurate results.

For 1000/1000 Mbps speeds, the Ethernet cable should be at least CAT5e or newer. The computer’s network card must support at least 1 Gbps speeds for the test to be reliable.
